Project Brief:
Students will design a responsive portfolio landing page with a type-driven visual identity to share with the public.
In my fall junior-year typography class—Information and Publishing Design Systems, my classmates and I were instructed to design a responsive portfolio landing page with a type-driven visual identity to share with the public. To begin, I wrote a mission statement: “My mission as a graphic and experience designer is to design with purpose, creating accessible,
user-centered experiences that connect psychology, nature, and education.” I conducted thorough research, drawing inspiration from visuals that aligned with my mission, and created responsive designs for desktop, tablet, and mobile, all based on a well-defined grid system. My portfolio included content I wrote about myself, such as an “About Me” section, “My Work,” and “Contact.” Developing the responsive design system was a rewarding process, particularly when adapting my custom type scale to different layouts. While it was tricky at times, helpful critiques and guidance throughout the process made it a valuable and enjoyable learning experience.

For the final Hi-fi Wireframes, I stuck to my established grid better, and layed things out better in a way that it showcased my original inspiration (Swiss, grunge, postmodern). I wrote things in a way for it to be more contained and friendly to show that I’m very personable.
I enjoyed working through making my design responsive. Since I created my own typescale, it was interesting to work through altering the scale based on the page layout. It was tricky at times, but I’m glad I had helpful critiques and aid along the way.
